As he hummed the tune he had been sent by his sister-in-law, Fred
knew he had never heard this piece of music before. As he sat at his
piano to play this unknown melody, little did he realise the ghosts of
times long gone that he would awaken and the dramatic part he would play
in one of Ireland’s most fascinating legends.
A decision he would make that day in 1912 that would see the haunting
old O'Cahan Lament become internationally famous and more commonly known
as Danny Boy, the most beautiful love song in the world.
A song that has been sung and performed with passion by some of the
greatest vocalists and musicians and has tugged at the hearts strings of
Irish people all over the world for over 400 years and will surely tug
at the hearts of generations to come as it keeps whispering the words
‘come ye back’
The story finishes with local musicians accompanying Belfast singer
Jenny Martin as she performs her own beautiful version of Danny Boy on
this unique Legend of Danny Boy CD.
